‘More Time’ is the latest release from Dublin based singer-songwriter, Eileen Gogan. The track is from her upcoming album, \u2018Under Moving Skies\u2019, which features guest appearances from luminaries such\u00a0as Sean O\u2019Hagan, Cathal Coughlan, Damian O\u2019Neill, Terry Edwards and\u00a0Stephen Ryan (The Stars of Heaven, The Revenants, The Drays). The album is self-produced by Eileen and showcases the skills of this talented artist.\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

‘More Time’ is dreamily wistful, Eileen’s voice set against a gentle instrumental which gradually adds in backing vocals. It’s a distinctly Irish sound, reminiscent of The Corrs and The Cranberries, but this is by no means a criticism, more an acknowledgment that Gogan sings what she knows, and her music reflects her environment. There’s a fun ending to the track which we won’t spoil for you, but it will pay to bear the song’s title in mind.<\/p>\n

‘Under Moving Skies’ is the follow-up to her acclaimed debut, the concise and sparkling \u2018Spirit Of\u00a0Oberlin\u2019, and takes its inspiration from a much\u00a0wider sound palette. Clearly relishing her role at the mixing desk, Eileen\u00a0has written a collection of songs that take her far beyond previous boundaries.<\/p>\n

Among the remaining seven self-penned songs of the 8 on the album are acoustic based pop nuggets\u00a0such as the doughty \u2018I Don\u2019t Mind\u2019 and the bouzouki-adorned \u2018Yes, Music Does Have the Right To Children\u2019, as well as ventures into more spatial, widescreen territory with the evocative and eerie \u2018San Fran 1997\u2019, the spectral \u2018Sweet Alice\u2019 and \u2019Don\u2019t Let Me Sleep\u2019, a classic soul update that drifts into another world mid-song.<\/p>\n

By contrast, \u2018Echo\u2019 is a suitably bare-boned meditation on a troubled relationship while the infectious \u2018Malibu Stacy\u2019 is all lip-gloss and\u00a0Latin swagger. Adding further variety is a glistening instrumental by\u00a0Undertones legend Damian O\u2019Neill (who also provides the crackling guitar\u00a0break on \u2018Don\u2019t Let Me Sleep\u2019) and album closer \u2018Celebration\u2019, an a cappella\u00a0version of a Nuala Ni Dhomhnaill poem for which Gogan has created a\u00a0haunting air, providing the perfect showcase for her pure vocal style.<\/p>\n

As a singer, Eileen\u2019s unaffected delivery has invited\u00a0comparisons with Sandy Denny and Kirsty MacColl, but her sound \u2013 a blend\u00a0of glistening guitar and vintage keyboards – draws on a range of influences\u00a0such as Richard and Linda Thompson, Neil Young, Can, Patti Smith, REM\u00a0and Yo La Tengo. Her first album, \u2018The Spirit of Oberlin\u2019, was recorded with\u00a0her band The Instructions and released in late 2015. It received widespread\u00a0praise and was subsequently performed live at Longitude Festival, The\u00a0Electric Picnic, Whelans, The Grand Social bar and Bello bar.<\/p>\n

Outside of her\u00a0solo work, Eileen has sung with The Would Bes\u2019, The Revenants and The\u00a0Drays and performed with Microdisney at their 2018-19 reunion concerts.<\/p>\n
