It feels like recently we’ve written a lot about songs which talk about the current situation with the COVID-19 crisis. And fair enough, as musical artists write about their experiences, and this is one we are all experiencing. We are going to now cover another medically related song, but this time, it’s not about the present pandemic, but rather a crisis that affects all of us, cancer.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Innovating Health International (IHI) brings real treatment options to those in some the least served areas of the world. They find cost effective ways to diagnose cancer and other chronic conditions in Haiti, Somaliland, and Malawi, with their particular focus on women’s health, especially in rural communities, where treatment is often unaffordable. To commemorate the organisation, a collective of female singers from Haiti and other parts of the world came together to record ‘Celebre’, a single aiming to raise money and awareness for IHI and what it does. The song is at the same time both celebratory and fun; serious, smart, and altogether an incredible dance track.<\/p>\n

Dr Gail Granowitz, singer-songwriter Beth Blatt, and renowned Haitian-American singer-songwriter and actress, Malou Beauvoir, were all fired up by the incredible cause of IHI. Malou called on her longtime co-producers and co-writers, Chico Boyer, and Cheff Loncher, who gave their time and talents to the benefit project at a greatly reduced rate. The final single and music video features a group of Haitian-American female singers, whose voices combine to create a gorgeous track.<\/p>\n

The music video for ‘Celebre’, directed by Steven DeGennaro, takes us to a cancer ward in the developing world. Far from being the sad and sombre experience we might think, it’s full of life, and healing. The women in the clip are receiving their treatment thanks to ICI, and because of it, are given a fighting chance of survival. By the end of the video, all the women – singers, dancers, and patients alike, are dressed in scrubs, dancing in absolute defiance towards that which would otherwise have killed them. The song is a bold united statement, and a testimony to the difference which can be made in the lives of women all over the world because of organisations such as IHI.<\/p>\n

All monies from sales of the single go directly towards supporting IHI, along with its team.
