With more than a hint of Echo And The Bunnymen (very much reminiscent of ‘Pretty In Pink’), The Cry return with their latest single, ‘This Hazy Morning’, the follow up to their previous release, ‘It Is As It Seems<\/a>‘, which came out late last year. The Cry will later this year – all things being equal – release their first LP since 1990.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

It strikes me that a lot of songs being released at the moment bear with them the echo of these unsettled times. It’s not really possible; many have been written months, if not years, before the current crisis…and yet, they still have a vibe of apocalyptic times about them – maybe it’s the music, maybe it’s the vocals – who knows.<\/p>\n

‘This Hazy Morning’, by The Cry, is yet another of these sorts of songs. It could well be their 80s sound – which was itself a troubled time – the earnest vocals and jangly guitars calling into focus an image of someone waking up to a desolate, people-less landscape, and as a result, thinking back another time when things were different. The song is upbeat and positive, and yet there’s just that something about it that makes me feel as though this would be perfect on the soundtrack for a film about the end of the world. So cheery!<\/p>\n
