One of the design flaws of humans is that we tend to romanticize the past. Because we tend to only focus on the good parts, the days of old can suddenly seem incredible! This is true of many aspects of life, including music. You’ll often hear people say that they wish they had been born in some past decade because the music was so much better then. But here’s something to remember: it’s not true! In fact, music is the best that it’s ever been right now. Don’t believe us? Just check out some of our reasons below.

There are More People Making It

You might not like what you hear on the radio, and that’s fine — much of it isn’t that good. The mistake is to fall into thinking that what you hear on the radio is representative of music as a whole. It’s not! Only a tiny fraction of artists get played on the radio (since getting played is a next to impossible task). There are plenty of artists out there who are making outstanding music, it’s just you have to dig a little deeper to find it.

You Can Make It

One thing that many of us take for granted is that the ability to make music is much greater than it was in the past. If you were born in, say, 1950, you’d have to work pretty hard to get an instrument. But today? It couldn’t be easier. Indeed, you can make music just on your computer. As such, music becomes something isn’t just enjoyed from a distance: it’s something that you can be a part of. If you’ve got a few musical bones in your body, then take a look at seeing what you can create. You never know what might come of it!

Access To Older Bands

One thing that’s often overlooked when people say music was better in the old days is that…you can still listen to those bands. It’s not as if all the recordings were erased, and all we have is the memory of what music sounded like. Today, you can listen to virtually all songs that have ever been recorded, with just a few clicks of your mouse button. That’s something that we really shouldn’t take for granted. And it’s not as if the old bands only live on in recordings, either; this blog from MultitrackMaster outlines some classic bands that are still going strong today. So you’re able to enjoy all the great music of the past and the great music of today: it’s a win-win situation!

More Live Shows

Music sounds great on record, sure, but there’s nothing quite like seeing it live. Today, there’s a strong live performance culture, with music shows on virtually every night of the week in larger cities. Whether you want to discover the latest local indie band or catch the world’s biggest bands on their world tour, there are plenty of opportunities when it comes to enjoying the music you love in person.
