Anton Newcombe <\/strong>collaborations are never less than interesting, so hearing he was working with Emmanuelle Seigner<\/strong>, I was naturally intrigued.<\/h4>\n

A teenage muse of Jean Luc Godard <\/strong>and the wife of controversial director Roman Polanski <\/strong>– for whom she starred in Frantic <\/em><\/strong>and Bitter Moon <\/em><\/strong>– Seigner is no musical novice.<\/h4>\n

She’s recorded with French outfit Ultra Orange <\/strong>and released two solo albums.in her own right<\/p>\n

Seigner met Newcombe through mutual friends and accomplices, husband and wife garage-rock duo The Limi\u00f1anas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The four combined to form L\u2019Epee <\/strong>(The Sword) and Diabolique <\/em><\/strong>– a nod to swinging sixties Italian cult caper romp Danger: Diabolik <\/em><\/strong>– is their debut album.<\/p>\n

Lionel Limi\u00f1ana<\/strong> came up with most of the songs, with guest artist Bertrand Belin <\/strong>contributing lyrics to three tracks.<\/p>\n

Newcombe is credited with multi-instrumental work, but more crucially \u2018doctoring and treatments\u2019 – his studio production and programming skills helping to give the album its distinctive atmosphere.<\/p>\n

Having garnered a reputation as one of rock\u2019s wildmen during his early years with The Brian Jonestown Massacre<\/strong>, Newcombe is a very different character these days having cleaned up and decamped to Berlin with his wife and son.<\/p>\n

A fan of British bands from The Rolling Stones<\/strong>, to post-punk and feedback merchants The Jesus and Mary Chain – <\/strong>with the aid of The Limi\u00f1anas – he\u2019s clearly been absorbing other delights the continent has to offer.<\/p>\n
