Rowe is the solo project of Becky Filip, who was once a member of California folk duo (specifically Sacramento and San Luis Obispo) The Honey Trees, who were active between 2008 and 2014, releasing one EP and one full length album.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Rowe’s song, ‘Tired Love’, released on November 15, is the first from Filip as a solo artist, and marks her debut as a principal songwriter.<\/p>\n

It also denotes a move away from her previous sound, with ‘Tired Love’ moving away from the folk sound of The Honey Trees, to a much more seductive pop\/soul\/jazz style; there’s shades of Lana Del Rey, Miley Cyrus (think ‘Adore You’, from ‘Bangerz’), even Taylor Swift.<\/p>\n

‘Tired Love’ is an autobiographical sounding track, with Rowe telling the story of life after a breakup, mirroring the real life end of her previous long term relationship and band. The song comes after a period of quiet reflection, when she took time out in quiet seclusion, to take stock of her life, to heal, and to work out on her own terms what how to live and create again. She recognised that solitude and being alone didn’t have to mean being lonely; the time by herself ensured she was able to dig deep into her own soul and examine what was most important to her.<\/p>\n

Becky Filip worked with Micah Tawlks on the album, not just a musician and producer – and a Nashville-based one at that – but also a childhood friend, who had been an early musical influence on Filip. Tawlks enabled Filip to fulfil her experimental vision, and in production, took her smooth vocals and blended them with the instrumentals, giving it an overall mid-century jazz sound, which at once sounds both classic, and modern.<\/p>\n

Speaking of ‘Tired Love’, Filip said,<\/p>\n

\u201cThis song isn\u2019t necessarily about one person or relationship. It\u2019s about the time when life as I knew it came crashing down, and I realized I could do this on my own. I can be strong just as myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
