I know the music I want to make. I\u2019m not trying to be anyone else.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Another unexpected consequence of turning 30, or perhaps of looking back, was a desire to return to the free-spirited way in which he made music as a teen.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI definitely tapped in to my 17 year old self,\u201d says James. \u201cI got back on my acoustic guitar, on my own, which I hadn\u2019t done a while. It wasn\u2019t about trying to write a hit. It was about having something to say. And \u2013 here\u2019s the grown-up part \u2013 for the first time in my life, I stopped looking inwards and started looking out, at other people\u2019s relationships and how my behavior in the past might have affected those around me. That forced me to use my imagination.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8216;YOU\u2019s empowering, freedom-fighting title track, boasts a guest rap from Blink-182\u2019s Travis Barker.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;We share management in the States, we\u2019re fans of each other and he loved the song. He recorded his part the day after I asked, fresh from his Halsey collaboration. The song is dedicated to ordinary people doing extraordinary things, partly inspired by my sisters and partly by a Puerto Rican kid I box with, who has been through a lot. But I read stories every day that YOU could refer to. Everyone does.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Upcoming single \u2018Quite Miss Home\u2019 is another important song on the record, a stately, strings-accompanied track that is sure to be huge hit with his fans. James says:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;This song is inspired by being away from home a lot and the little nuances that make home what it is to me and other people I observe in my life. My sister\u2019s fianc\u00e9 works away a lot of the year and she misses him like crazy! However her OCD for cleaning still makes sure he takes his shoes off at the door, that\u2019s when he knows he\u2019s home.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Other stand out tracks include the Eg White (Adele, Sam Smith) co-penned \u2018If We Can Get Through This We Can Get Through Anything\u2019, about the difficulties of long-term relationships, and the stunning piano ballad, \u2018Maybe\u2019, written with James\u2019 best friend Jamie Grey, with whom he grew up playing in rock bands, and produced by the Brits Alex Beitzke and Bradley Spence behind \u2018Say You Won\u2019t Let Go\u2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The last few years have been remarkable for James. He was recently awarded a disc for reaching a billion streams on Spotify with his No.1 global hit &#8216;Say You Won&#8217;t Let Go&#8217;.
