Languidly strolling across the aural sphere, ‘Camouflage’, from Kazyak, is a psychedelically sonic adventure, and a worthy dive into the pool which is their forthcoming album, ‘Odyssey’.<\/strong><\/h4>\n
<\/div>\n
‘Camouflage’ gives off a Tame Impala-like vibe, or even Sex People, as it stretches in and out of a cosmic dreamscape of sound. Vocally we’re reminded of Neil Young, with that laid back casualness that you know deep down actually means serious business. It’s an anthemic track about trying to blend in, and the difficulties of doing so:<\/div>\n

Things are moving really fast<\/div>\n
It’s all part of the plan<\/div>\n
Said I’d kick the habit<\/div>\n
But I just kick the can<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
<\/div>\n
Instrumentally it’s just as languid; bass holding court, with drums echoing not far behind, with guitars squealing in and out of our consciousness. Synths work in harmony with the vocals, and an almost metronomic rhythm ticks along keeping time and pulling the piece all together.<\/div>\n

‘Odyssey’, set for release on August 16, is the follow up to Kazyak’s 2017 EP, ‘Happy Camping’, and their long player, ‘Reflection’, which came out last year. Speaking of the release, guitarist\/songwriter Peter Frey says it’s,<\/div>\n

\u201cmore rugged, forward-looking and psychedelic than our past releases. It\u2019s the first record we\u2019ve recorded live, and is channeling inspiration from Patagonia and themes from Joseph Campbell\u2019s ‘The Power of Myth’. It attempts to capture the desire to explore and to take the listener to the edge of discovery.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

‘Camouflage’ might be about trying to blend in, but as an example of what to expect from ‘Odyssey’, we hope Kazyak don’t succeed – after all, why try to blend in when you’re born to stand out?<\/div>\n
