Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world. 25% of men and 55% of women are illiterate. AIDS is a major problem. Many children barely finish primary education. Secondary school in Malawi is not free meaning that education, something we take for granted, is denied thousands of young people.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

One of Kent\u2019s schools, Tonbridge Grammar School, is organising a concert tonight at St Saviour’s Church in the town to help raise money for a feeding centre for orphans in Malawi. They have joined forces with Joshua Orphan & Community Care and rising star Pete Gardiner to use the power of music to try to help.<\/div>\n

Joshua Orphan and Community Care<\/a> work to improve the lives of thousands of Malawian children providing a safe environment for orphans, vulnerable children and their families trying to ensure that they have good basic education, health care and clean water supplies.<\/div>\n

Pete Gardiner released his debut album ‘Ashtray Black’ to critical acclaim last year and has just returned from Nashville where he has been bringing new material to new audiences. He is performing for free and if this wasn\u2019t generous enough he\u2019s doing it on his birthday. Pete\u2019s new material seems to be moving to a more stripped back style which will further showcase his lyrical mastery. He hopes to release a new single in the next few months and tonight\u2019s event is a wonderful opportunity to see why American audiences loved his recent visit.<\/div>\n

St Saviours Church in Dry Hill Park Crescent, Tonbridge will be a fantastic venue for this evening\u2019s event. It\u2019s atmospheric Victorian interior lends itself perfectly to a musical event and organiser, Becca Mumford, has lined up lots of local talent to help Pete make tonight\u2019s performance a really special one. It\u2019s a great opportunity to see an outstanding singer songwriter and to make a difference to the orphans, vulnerable children and families in Malawi for who every day is a battle.<\/strong><\/div>\n
