Sophie Simmons was born into the the entertainment world, but had her first moment in the spotlight at the tender age of 11, when she was a part of the reality TV show, ‘Gene Simmons: Family Jewels’. Yes, her father is the legendary KISS bassist and co-leader; but 25 year old Sophie has enough of her own hard work ethic to get noticed on her own merits.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

She’s blazed a trail in her own acting career, and also founded her own centre for abused children, based in Vancouver, Canada, called “Sophie’s Place”. Add to that studying computer science at Pomona College and she already has a very impressive CV. Now Sophie is concentrating on her music career, with her new alt-pop track, ‘Black Mirror’.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the song, Sophie says,<\/p>\n

\u201cThe song is about love, self-sabotage and our attachment to technology.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

‘Black Mirror’ was inspired by the Charlie Brooker Netflix programme of the same name<\/a>, and came about in a time when her relationship was in turmoil. Lyrics such as those of the chorus, show best this fusion of influences:<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been chewed up and spit out and trampled on<\/p>\n

But I like it, the taste of a love gone wrong<\/p>\n

‘Black Mirror’ is a pop song, but it’s so much darker than that, so it should surely fall into the alt-pop category. It comes with a beautiful video as well, with Sophie singing in a dimly let room, stylised to look like a home video shot on VHS tape. Sophie yearns for lost love, revisiting in her mind those better times; sweetly singing but at the same time pulling at our heartstrings, accompanied by the merest of instrumentals – guitar, bass, strings.<\/p>\n
