Originally from Pennsylvania, Shane Palko was first handed a guitar at the age of 6, and quickly joined two of his older brothers in search of telling a story through its strings and his voice. He’s had an unusual life – was brought up in a forest and spent much of the past decade touring the world – and so it’s no wonder the 28 year old indie folk\/rock musician has such an incredible artistic vision. His song, ‘Staring Out The Window’, was born while visiting Uganda.<\/strong><\/h4>\n
Shane Palko isn’t just an accomplished guitarist and singer, but he is an expert drummer, and has performed as both a member of his own band and as a fill-in for others. His passion however is singing and songwriting, and he’s performed his music in over 20 countries, including China, Vietnam, and Russia. Shane even took a sememster of courses at a college in South Africa, while he was gigging and teaching guitar at a township school in Mamelodi. His incredible dedication and strength of character allow him to succeed at whatever he sets out to do, and his love for international cultures is paired with his passion for environmental issues. Shane feels it’s important ot be “connected to a place”, and thereafter cherish it.<\/div>\n

Shane was in Uganda, doing interviews and television performances across the country, ahead of Maro\u2019s NziragaNago Festival. It was there he joined forces with Joanita Zachariassen, a Ugandan-born musician, based in Denmark. Joanita appears in the video for ‘Staring Out The Window’, but the voice which joins Palko and his guitar is that of Rachel Amara Walker. Many different locations in Uganda are used in the clip, which has been directed by Papa Shabini. It’s a glorious, earthy video which brings Palko’s indie folk style to life.<\/div>\n
