Tom Chaplin follows the success of his acclaimed solo album \u2018The Wave\u2019 (which debuted at #3 in the UK Album Chart) with a glorious new release, \u2018Twelve Tales of Christmas\u2019 out now on Island Records. This stunning collection features eight original songs co-written by Tom, as well as four inventive covers. His single, ‘Walking In The Air’, is behind door 7 of our Essential Advent Calendar this year.

\u201cChristmas is my favourite time of year,\u201d says Tom who has fond memories from his childhood. \u201cThe passing years have conspired to erode that magic but I still feel it\u2019s presence when I gather together with my family.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Produced by David Kosten and recorded at Abbey Road, Muttley Ranch and Snap Studios, the album includes evocative covers of \u2018Walking In The Air\u2019, Joni Mitchell\u2019s classic \u2018River\u2019, the Pretenders \u20182000 Miles\u2019 and the immortal \u2018Stay Another Day\u2019 by East 17. Determined to capture the wonderful side of Christmas music, Tom has written some soon to be modern day Christmas classics including new single \u2018Under A Million Lights\u2019 and \u2018Midnight Mass\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe four covers I chose are personal favourites and all very distinct from one another,\u201d Tom says. \u201cI found Christmas a great source of inspiration for writing my own songs. There\u2019s a bittersweet quality to this time of year that made me want to explore the themes of love, lost love and remembering those we have lost.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

As documented on \u2018The Wave\u2019, Tom has endured his share of dark times and it was this turbulent period of his life that made him appreciate being able to see Christmas clearly now through his daughter\u2019s eyes. His voice, one of modern music\u2019s greatest instruments as evidenced by his incredible Keane catalogue and on last year\u2019s \u2018The Wave\u2019, really suits the reflective nature of these songs.<\/p>\n
