Philip Basnight and Colin Cross, from Washington DC met in 2014 when Colin asked Philip to record at Unkept & Overcaffeinated studios. From there the project which became Broke Royals, blossomed naturally, and somewhere along the way, the pair started a band, and somehow…inspired Thailand.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

In May 2014 a military coup overcame Thailand, and Broke Royals’ debut single, ‘About Time’, was discovered by that country’s citizens, and became a sort of anthem, and led to their being invited to perform at a benefit concert there. Unfortunately this didn’t materialise as they would have been arrested upon arrival. Nonetheless the duo were encouraged to keep on with their music, and their latest single, ‘As Long As I Can See’, shows they have plenty more where ‘About Time’ came from.<\/p>\n

Blending pop, rock, and even EDM, Broke Royals have developed a sound that perfectly matches the mood of the accompanying music video. Opening with beautiful scenery, including a forest, the water, and a beautiful sunset which covers the band with its light, we’re met immediately by different women and girls, who sing the song using sign language. With their hands following the lyrics with an almost dance-like quality, a whole new meaning is brought to the track.<\/p>\n
