For collectors of art and lovers of music comes a special collection that brings both movements together. It\u2019s Pop It\u2019s Art unveils its series of limited edition, silkscreen typography prints featuring iconic lyrics made famous by music greats.<\/p>\n
Each artwork is inspired by songs in the Sony\/ATV Music Publishing collection \u2013 the world\u2019s #1 music publisher globally and home to some of the most influential songs of the 20th century \u2013 and is officially licensed.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s Pop It\u2019s Art celebrates our connection to songs that have shaped a generation. In a world where everything is becoming increasingly digital, these visual cover-versions of our favourite songs bring a new life to the memories attached to the music.<\/p>\n
Each design is as iconic as the songs themselves, created by a handful of illustrators who have worked for top fashion designers such as Stussy; celebrated musicians like Florence + The Machine, Disclosure and Beck; and global brands such as Ray-Ban, MTV and Vice.<\/p>\n
Each artwork comes in a limited run of 150 copies, and is officially IPIA stamped with a Certificate of Authenticity. These artworks are priced at \u00a3225.00 (framed) and \u00a3150.00 (unframed) each.<\/p>\n
\u2018Son of A \u2018Preacher Man\u2019 (written by John Hurley and Ronnie Wilkins)<\/p>\n
The song was originally offered to Aretha Franklin who rejected it. She ultimately reconsidered after hearing Dusty Springfield\u2019s version, releasing her cover of \u2018Son of A Preacher Man\u2019 two years after Dusty\u2019s version.<\/p>\n
Dusty\u2019s version became an international hit, making Top 10 in the US and #9 in the UK in 1968.<\/p>\n
\u2018Son of A Preacher Man\u2019 made Rolling Stone\u2019s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.<\/p>\n
Feisty, feminist anthem that captured the spirit of the Equal Rights movement.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThe track was originally a man\u2019s account of bedding women \u2013 until Cyndi Lauper transformed it into a rallying cry for sexual equality.\u201d \u2013 Emma Green, The Atlantic (2014).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
The song was Cyndi Lauper\u2019s breakthrough hit in 1983, reaching #2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and eventually becoming a worldwide hit \u2013 widely recognised as one of the most popular songs of the 1980s.<\/p>\n
Just like the artwork, the song reminds us that beneath the sparkly veneer lies a strong feminist message.<\/p>\n

\nBerry Gordy, founder of Motown Records, originally did not want to release this \u2018protest song\u2019 however Marvin Gaye famously went on \u2018strike\u2019 refusing to record more material until he agreed to put out the record.<\/p>\n
\u2018What\u2019s Going On\u2019 went on to sell millions around the world and peaked at #2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1971. It is unquestionably one of Marvin Gaye\u2019s most significant contributions to music.<\/p>\n

Alex May Hughes is a sign painter and glass gilder based in West London.
