Brooklyn pop artist Blakeley calls to mind bubblegum pop and surf rock with her track, ‘Caffeine & Nicotine’. Fun and bouncy, yet ever so subversive in her subject matter, the song is a precursor to her new EP, ‘Sin Cider’, due for release this winter.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The super up-tempo track, which Blakeley refers to as “electronic rockabilly”,\u00a0 is guitar-led and extremely catchy, with Blakeley extolling the virtues of drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes, while exploring subjects as diametrically opposed as Edward Albee plays, James Dean, and online dating.<\/p>\n

Musically the track is slightly jarring, and yet Blakeley’s soaring and ever so slightly ferocious vocals recall the strong female artists of the late 60s and 70s, such as Patti Smith and Joan Jett. With Dylan Marcheschi’s guitar providing the hooky rhythms, Ben Grubin underscoring on bass and Alex Beckmann keeping the beat, ‘Caffeine & Nicotine’ was released on Septemer 8.<\/p>\n
