Birmingham Alabama is a musical hotbed with new bands and new music of all genres coming out of “The Magic City” every day. <\/strong><\/h4>\n

Artists such as Nerves Baddington, Future Elevators, and Shaheed & DJ Supreme show the Birmingham music scene at its best, and The Burning Peppermints join this illustrious set with their blend of punk, grunge, and rock’n’roll in their new single, Don’t Try To Lie To Me’.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Formed in 2012, The Burning Peppermints cut their performing teeth alongside acts such as The Dirty Lungs, Diarrhea Planet, and St Paul & The Broken Bones. Their debut album, ‘Dirty Rainbow’ and their energetic performance style saw them ranked by Glide Magazine as one of the top 20 must see bands to see at this year’s SXSW Festival. With influences from the psych scenes of LA, Austin, and Nashville, their sound is quite a refreshing combination of “dingy garage rock and West Coast surf, all delivered via an infamously aggressive live performance.”<\/p>\n

The video for ‘Don’t Try To Lie To Me’, directed by Dez Wilson, along with frontman Jake Wittig, pulls in elements from 1960s psych culture and combines them with candy-coloured aggressive punk. The trio of Wittig, bassist Ahmad Farzad, and percussionist Ryan Colebeck, walk slowly towards the viewer in bright white suits, while paint is splashed at them in bright hues. All the while, Wittig sings to camera, staring down the lens and then screaming while more and more paint (at time getting into his eyes) is tossed on the trio. The video is incongruous – all this is happening on a country road with a church in the background, a situation nobody would ever expect to encounter.<\/p>\n
