The Arias brothers, Luis (drums), David (guitar), Erick (bass) and Fernando (vocals), grew up in a musical home. <\/strong><\/h4>\n

Their father was a mariachi performer, and later worked as a DJ for a Spanish-language radio station. The brothers started creating music together in 2008, when the youngest, Luis, was still only 13\u00a0years old, and their band name, ‘Avantist’, a contraction of ‘avant-gardist’. means “experimenter” – someone\u00a0who’s ahead of the curve, creating art that’s new and experimental.<\/p>\n

Citing the likes of Queens Of The Stone Age, The Mars Volta, and Kings Of Leon (among others) as their musical influences, they also find inspiration in every aspect of life; from experiences, to emotions, to people, places, and everyday objects.<\/p>\n

‘Tidalwave’, originally released on their album, ‘TRANSRADICALMASH’ in 2013, has been re-released this year on their self-titled album. Set to also be included on the band’s Sony Records\/The Orchard debut, it takes the band’s post-rock-meets-prog-rock sound, and combines it with touches of surf rock and punk.<\/p>\n

The song features a video made in Chicago, and directed by Justin Nico Flocco. It centres on a young professional, who just isn’t in the mood – and when\u00a0all sorts of drama occurs, starting by spilling coffee all over himself, followed by chaos in the office, he makes his escape, and finds himself at an Avantist performance, where he finds relief and an escape from all his concerns.<\/p>\n
