Taking influences from the likes of CHVRCHES, The 1975, and St. Lucia, HICARI create huge pop anthems with synth hooks that will sound as at home in an arena as they do on your headphones.<\/span><\/p>\n The new single \u2018Stellar\u2019 is no exception to this with its upbeat sensibilities rooted in 80s pop. Lyrically, however, the track delves deep, tackling the subject of body image and the pressures to conform to modern-day, media perceptions of unrealistic beauty.<\/span><\/p>\n Shai (lead vocalist) comments, <\/span><\/p>\n \u201cFrom the age of 11 to 18 I\u2019d been bullied for being chubby and it has always played on my conscience. My mum always told me otherwise but I was convinced that I wasn\u2019t good enough to be seen as attractive. Where I grew up, physical \u2018beauty\u2019 was seen as the only thing that made you worthy of being someone and so I grew up determined to be what people thought was beautiful. Now I see how subjective beauty is, we all perceive it differently and so for me \u2018Stellar\u2019 was being on both sides of the spectrum.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Ryan (vocalist and keyboard player) adds, <\/span><\/p>\n \u201cAs a kid in school, I always fell for girls who had talent and great personalities. I remember completely falling for a girl because she had such an incredible voice, I couldn\u2019t come to terms with why other guys only talked about the \u2018popular\u2019 girls who had nice faces and big boobs. \u2018Stellar\u2019 is celebrating how innocent and oblivious I used to be, and rejecting how society has tried to teach me that \u2018real beauty\u2019 is on the outside.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Hailing from Liverpool, HICARI, which means ‘light’ in Japanese, are a multicultural band of friends who are made up of Shayaan Oshidar (lead vocals), Ryan Bickley (vocals and keyboard), Tatsu Saiki (guitar and keyboard), Paddy Morrison (bass) and Will Brown (drums).<\/span><\/p>\n 2016 saw HICARI first achieve recognition on their debut single ‘Catch Fire’, and its remix reaching over a quarter of a million hits. <\/span><\/p>\n The band also played to festival crowds including 2016\u2019s LIMF (Liverpool International Music Festival) & Fusion Festival. <\/span><\/p>\n HICARI kick off 2017 with a collaboration on one of Anki’s album tracks, which has surpassed a million streams on Spotify and earned itself a playlist spot on \u2018SiriusXM\u2019 in the US. <\/span><\/p>\n Now the band are back with new music of their own, playing a London headline show at Notting Hill Arts Club on Friday 26th May.<\/span><\/p>\n You can listen to the new track below:<\/span><\/p>\n https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/hicariuk\/stellar<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Pop quintet HICARI have announced the release of their new single \u2018Stellar\u2019, which is out today (April 21st).<\/p>\n\n
