With the news that US President Trump intends to abolish the Environmental Protection Agency, electronic music producer Second Hand Spaceman has set off on a self-declared mission to save a dying planet.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

\u201cIf we continue at the rate we\u2019re going, we\u2019re all going to have to buy second hand spacesuits. \u00a0We all need to act now, and this album is one way that I\u2019m doing my bit to save our planet.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

His album, ‘Blast Off’, is set for release on 28 April, with the proceeds from all pre-order sales being donated to the World Land Trust, to help with essential rainforest conservation work, and to help spread their positive, educational message about the importance of saving the environment.<\/div>\n

‘Blast Off’ is the Second Hand Spaceman’s first project, and has been a work in progress for the past 18 months. Self-written, recorded and produced, he says:<\/div>\n

“The writing process took around 3 months. Then for the next 15 months it was a process of careful listening, evaluating, adding, taking away, sampling, resampling, distorting, stretching and mixing until I arrived at 10 tracks I was very happy with.”<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
‘Blast Off’ features a mix of ambient sounds, electronic grooves, some hip hop, and a lot of synths, with Second Hand Spaceman crediting Bonobo, DJ Shadow, Mr Scruff, and Massive Attack as among his influences.<\/div>\n

Lead track, ‘Nice Planet’, features some upbeat (vaguely sinister)\u00a0theremin sounds, and is accompanied by a video created by Serbian director and animator, Dusan Tatalovic. The brightly coloured clip shows Second Hand Spaceman on the dead earth hearing something enticing and glorious over the radio. Tracing the source of the signal, he sets off to find out who is sending it, and eventually meets and befriends the wise beings who broadcast it. He is given a very special gift to heal the earth, and so returns home to set about his task.<\/div>\n
