Last month we featured Christina Rubino and her song, ‘Godspeed And Guns’<\/a>, the title track from her new album. It was a rocking song with a deeply personal message, and the video had a twist in the tail. Now she’s back with the\u00a0sombre, piano-led anthem, ‘Down To The Sea’.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

‘Down To The Sea’ showcases Christina’s musical skills and her soulful and versatile voice, and the song makes us feel both sad and overwhelmed at the same time, with its lyrics depicting a person in deep distress:<\/p>\n

“Give me back my reason to sing
\nI have it all but I feel I\u2019ve lost everything
\ncold and sensitive, lifetime filled with longing
\nevery night cut open bleed the morning<\/p>\n

“And God know nothing can remain the same
\nbecause the wind blows and it shatters all that remains
\nthen something wakes me up from a long, sad, depressing sleep
\nthen it breaks the locks before I can look for the keys”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The video is beautifully shot, and once again is directed by Jerry Farley, who made his debut with the video for Christina’s previous song, ‘Godspeed And Guns’. The clip jumps between Christina playing piano, lit only by candles and a string of fairy lights in her hair – and the sands of Coney Island Beach, where she wakes up on New Year’s Day, having had a rough previous night. Hundreds\u00a0of people are gathered for the annual Polar Bear Plunge<\/a> into the freezing ocean waters: Christina joins in and uses the experience as a catharsis. As she runs into the icy Atlantic she joins with others in shedding the past year and its difficulties and taking on the fresh new one.<\/p>\n
