Back in December last year we introduced you to Peppermint Heaven and their album, ‘Precious Things’.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Released in late January, it has a real 80s vibe about it, with the band’s\u00a0influences including, but not exclusive to, The Pet Shop Boys and Psychedelic Furs.\u00a0Even the album\u00a0title harks\u00a0back to The Smiths’ song, ‘The Queen Is Dead’.<\/p>\n

With a lot of years under their belt in the music business, we thought it would be nice for Peppermint Heaven to give some advice. Here’s their top tips for working in the studio!<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse.\u00a0 We always like to be completely prepared – knowing what we’re going to play before we go in helps make the session most productive.\u00a0 We were able to record basic tracks and vocals for the Precious Things album in three days which is something we’re quite proud of.<\/strong><\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 When you’re locked in keep recording.\u00a0 When we feel we’re getting into a good groove, we always record another take right away to keep the magic going.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0 Confidence is key.\u00a0 This is so true – especially when recording vocals.\u00a0 Lack of confidence will show right through and you don’t want that!<\/strong><\/p>\n

4.\u00a0 Don’t be afraid to switch gears if it’s not working.\u00a0 Sometimes when you get the studio, a track may simply not work as well as it does live.\u00a0 Be open to making changes on the fly to make it work.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0 Improvise.\u00a0 Some of the best moments can come from an improvised part.\u00a0 Let your creative juices flow.\u00a0 Get your rehearsed parts down, but then try something completely on the fly.<\/strong><\/p>\n

6.\u00a0 Look at the big picture.\u00a0 Always imagine how your instrumental or vocal part with fit into the arrangement as a whole.\u00a0 This is key to recording a great track.<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0 Record only your best.\u00a0 Take only your best songs into the studio.\u00a0 Be selective and objective. You don’t want to waste time and money.\u00a0 Focus, focus, focus!<\/strong><\/p>\n
