With influences as wide ranging as classical and jazz music, as well as Kurt Cobain, classically trained musician Bryan Deister’s album, ‘Spines Of The Heart’, is dark and emotionally penetrating.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Based in Redondo Beach, Los Angeles, but currently studying for his Writing and Composition Scholarship at the Berklee College Of Music, Bryan jokes,<\/p>\n

“Hopefully after Berklee I will continue to improve in all facets and be able to write interesting music without starving.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He has always sought to be a musician who knows no boundaries, and has been trained in classical, jazz, blues, prog rock, and modern music. His songs are all written and composed, as well as sung, by himself, and he also performs all instrumentation, including the chorals, polyrhythms, and more unusual touches, such as funk banjo, and rice shakers.<\/p>\n

Citing among his influences the likes of Nirvana, Weezer, and My Bloody Valentine, Deister decided to take his music seriously and throw himself into the dark and thoughtful world of well-written music, and started studying 20th century composition techniques.<\/p>\n

The 22 song album over 2 discs was released on December 22 last year, and from the very first song, ‘All That I Have’, it’s evident his sobering musical influences, which also perhaps echo the music of David Bowie and Brian Eno.\u00a0Our favourite,\u00a0‘Always Further’, features Deister’s beautifully sad vocals accompanied mostly\u00a0by piano and polyrhythmic drum beats. There’s a certain Eastern impression you get from several of the songs as well, and the entire album is one of Progressive Rock epic proportions.<\/p>\n
