‘I Am My Only Love’ is an electro dance song, with a real 80s vibe reminding us of American\u00a0girl groups from that era, such as The Bangles and The Go Gos.<\/p>\n
This sound is no accident. Tora explains:<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThe Baby Raptors sound should feel like total abandon – like a long summer Saturday and a vacation from here and now.<\/p>\n
Baby Raptors was created with the sole purpose of making feel good party music through various producer collaborations. I really wanted my first collab to be with Party Supplies for his signature nu-school production that blends dance and 80’s pop.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
‘I Am My Only Love’ was immediately picked up by music tastemakers, and had its premiere\u00a0on The Fader whilst\u00a0gaining further support from Pop Justice, Pigeons and Planes, and Mass Appeal, among others.<\/p>\n
The collaboration first came about after Tora was totally blown away by ‘Blue Chips’, the mixtape put together in 2012 by Party Supplies and\u00a0Action Bronson. She knew at that point that she would have to work with the producer, and so the pair got working in the studio: Baby Raptors was born.<\/p>\n
An ode to self adoration (the clue is in the title), the lyrics include the lines,<\/p>\n
Nobody holds me up, nobody holds me down
\nWhen everything falls apart, I’ve got my only heart<\/p><\/blockquote>\nIn effect this makes the song an affirmation to the truth that when it comes down to it, if you can’t love yourself first, then you shouldn’t expect anyone else to love you.<\/p>\n
It’s worth also checking out the various remixes of the song, apart from the already earwormy radio edit. These can be found on Soundcloud<\/a>, and we especially recommend the Penguin Prison Remix,\u00a0which has a real Eurobeat feel to it that’s quite different to the other versions.<\/p>\n
