Ahead of the release of their album, ‘Solid States’, on April 29, The Posies have dropped their latest single, ‘Unlikely Places’ – the follow-up to ‘Squirrel vs Snake’, which came out last month.<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n

‘Unlikely Places’ has a really nice bass line, that had our heads nodding and feet tapping from the get go, and this didn’t stop once the sultry, drawly vocals came in. ‘Solid States’ is the first album in five years The Posies, who’ve seen their fair share of tragedy in that time: drummer Darius Minwalla died last year, and then long term bassist Joe Skyward died from cancer last month. ‘Unlikely Places’ doesn’t betray this however, it’s moderately up tempo and not at all depressing, and reminds us of an act we can’t quite put our finger on. Weezer? Maybe. But with a touch of They Might Be Giants, and perhaps even a hint of The Smiths. In all it’s a great sound – and we’ve listened to ‘Unlikely Places’ five times in quick succession.<\/span><\/p>\n

Remaining band members Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow relocated from Seattle and are now living in Europe, where ‘Solid States’ will be released through British indie label Lojinx. They’re currently tailing off their European tour before moving on to the US.<\/span><\/p>\n

A pre-release tour edition, with bonus download tracks, will be available exclusively at live shows in Europe throughout April.<\/p>\n
