Remember we gave you Chris Tullock’s Essential Weekly Playlist a couple of weeks ago? Well now he’s back to tell us a bit about himself and his music.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

EP: What’s the Chris Tullock story? How did you get into music?<\/strong><\/div>\n
\u00a0[space height=”10″]<\/div>\n
CT: I got into music at I would say about the age of 7, my grandad always had music on in his house from brass bands and organs to the Beatles and Frank Sinatra, but it wasn’t until I was in the secondary school that I discovered my voice, used to sing along to mainly Queen, Ultravox, and Bowie, and always wanted to do something in the music industry from then. Unfortunately life at the time took me on a different path until about three years ago I decided to take up the guitar, and was soon writing my own songs. Now I just can’t stop!<\/div>\n

EP: Describe your music.<\/strong><\/div>\n
\u00a0[space height=”10″]<\/div>\n
CT: Umm my music, well I would say I’m a melodic song writer who is only constrained by the inability to play a range of instruments to get the song I envision in my head down, so so need a producer who has lots of gifted musician friends! Song styles vary from soft rock to modern folk: \u00a0between Bowie, Dylan, and Simon & Garfunkel I would like to think.<\/div>\n

EP: Who are your influences, in music? In life?<\/strong><\/p>\n

CT: Undoubtedly the greatest influences music-wise are Queen and David Bowie. Freddie Mercury ultimate showman and voice and a great songwriter too, and Bowie, well genius nothing more to say. In life as you will have gathered my grandad more than anyone, a great and humble man and I hope that I do him proud with the man that I have become.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

EP: Where do you see yourself next year? In 5 years? In 10?<\/strong><\/div>\n

CT: Well hopefully still alive!! Keep making music that I love and people enjoy, development as an artist and making a living from the music I create.<\/div>\n

EP: If you could do it all over again, what, if anything, would you do differently, and why?<\/strong><\/div>\n

\n

CT:\u00a0The thing I would change if I did it all over again would be to start going for it more at a younger age, ignore the doubts of family and just believe in my talent enough to go for it.<\/p>\n

EP: What’s your take on the current state of the music industry?<\/strong><\/p>\n

CT: Well I could go on all day with this subject, but I’ll try and keep it brief.<\/p>\n

First of\u00a0 all I think to much emphasis is placed on the look of the artist, and the imagery and marketing campaigns that follow and not the actual musical content. A lot of the\u00a0 current hits all seem to derive from the same beat, in a similar key, and have a similar sound…vocals too robotic…too extreme also on a lot of tracks too over the top in my opinion, even established artists of this era can’t seem to diversify or are not allowed to. Where is the next Bowie? I don’t believe the industry allows for such artists to grow anymore, which is sad for the general future of music I believe. Look which artists we grew up with and our parents – now look at today’s and ask yourself, where are the rebels? Where are the innovators? The great songwriters? Only a few and I mean a few will ever stand the test of time …OK…I’ll stop now…<\/p>\n

EP: Where can we hear your music? Are you performing live anywhere?<\/strong><\/div>\n

CT: At the moment I’m concentrating on songwriting as I feel that’s where my strength lies, so no plans for live shows in the near future but won’t rule it out.\u00a0My music can be found on the following links:<\/p>\n
