Blessed with Banksy, Massive Attack and the whole Trip Hop phenomenon, it could be said that Bristol’s been punching way above its cultural weight in recent years.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Now out of the Wild West come five new gunslingers aiming to prove they’ve got it what it takes to get to the very top.<\/p>\n

Looking like a cross between early\u00a0Mick Jagger<\/strong> and\u00a0Ian Astbury <\/strong>of The Cult<\/strong>,\u00a0The Shimmer Band<\/strong>\u00a0bristle with confidence and psychedelic swagger.<\/p>\n

Inhabiting much the same territory as\u00a0Kasabian,\u00a0<\/i><\/strong>the band boast a sound rooted in the past but full of modern flourishes.<\/p>\n

Debut song\u00a0Shoot Me (Baby)<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0melds\u00a0Stooges-<\/strong>style \u00a0attitude with\u00a0Sly Stone\u00a0<\/strong>grooves and romps along with a big old fashioned hook of a chorus.<\/p>\n

Shades of\u00a0Loop\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Screamadelica<\/strong><\/em>-era\u00a0Primal Scream\u00a0<\/strong>abound as bursts of electronica punctuate throbbing bass and spiky guitar.<\/p>\n

With support slots with\u00a0The Strypes\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0The Jesus and Mary Chain<\/strong> under their belt, this is clearly a band that’s going places.<\/p>\n

A headline tour of the UK is currently in the works in support of their new single.<\/p>\n

The Shimmer Band are: \u00a0Tom Newman<\/strong> (vocals),\u00a0<\/strong>guitarist\u00a0Babsy<\/b>, Willz Hatcher <\/strong>(drums),\u00a0Tom Kuras<\/strong>\u00a0on bass and\u00a0Tom Smith<\/strong>\u00a0(guitar and keyboards).<\/p>\n
