Brooklyn’s alt funk master, Charlie Funk has released his debut solo EP, ‘Give Me A Groove’.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Known for his work with Brooklyn label, True Groove Records<\/a>, where he is the long term staff songwriter, Charlie Funk, real name Charles Maynard, presents\u00a0a fun and funky album, featuring collaborations with top flight musicians, including Michael “Kidd Funkadelic” Hampton on guitar, Amp Fiddler<\/a> on keys, and with a spoken word performance, the legendary New York performance artist,\u00a0Marla Mase<\/a>.<\/p>\n

‘Give Me A Groove’ takes a few listens to appreciate, but there’s some standout tracks, including the classic Tom Jones track, ‘It’s Not Unusual’, which has been given the funky treatment. ‘Give Me A Groove’ is a six track EP (including a “touchy feely” remix of ‘Sexy Cutie’) and there’s something very attractive about it – maybe it’s the horns, maybe it’s the synths, maybe it’s the vocals – in any case it would likely be a great “make-out” album.<\/p>\n

Title track, ‘Give Me A Groove’ could easily have been written for Bruno Mars, or Prince, and it would be interesting to see what either of them could do with it.<\/p>\n

‘Sexy Cutie’, the final track of the album, is the lead single, and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Honey sweet vocals and funky instrumentation, accompanied by a fun and provocative video, make it the perfect track to end the EP.<\/p>\n
