London alt-rock band FADES are set to launch\u00a0their self-titled\u00a0EP on 10 March at Proud Camden. It will be publicly available the following day.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

With a sound reminiscent of Arctic Monkeys and Queens of the Stone Age (the band in fact take their name from a QOTSA song, ‘In The Fade’), the five piece band comprises Joshua Woo on vox and guitar, Alessandro Melchoir on guitar and keys, Lucas Mendes on lead guitar, James Dibble on bass, and Keir Adamson on drums.<\/p>\n

In 2014 Josh, performing as Metasic, needed a band to perform live at the launch of his EP, ‘Falling Into Place’. He called up some friends to help out, and they discovered they worked well as a band, and as a result, decided to come together as a band proper. They toured as Metasic\u00a0all around the UK during the first half of 2015, including a support gig for Nothing But Thieves, before travelling\u00a0to Italy where they recorded their EP.<\/p>\n

Returning to the UK, the band made the decision to change their name and FADES was born.<\/p>\n

‘Breaking Through The Walls’, out on 29 January, is the first track to be released from their EP. It’s a rocky, guitar-driven number with a catchy hook\u00a0–\u00a0a real foot tapper:\u00a0we defy anyone to sit still while this song is playing. The opening chord reminds us of the start of Cheap Trick’s song, ‘If You Want My Love’ – but it quickly loses all similarity after that point. Praise must be given to the skilled drumming of Keir Anderson, who literally holds the song together with his sticks.<\/p>\n

The members of FADES have a diverse range of musical influences, ranging from jazz legends such as\u00a0Lionel Loueke and Jonathan Kriesberg, classical artists such as\u00a0Dvo\u0159\u00e1k, and more contemporary artists, like\u00a0Radiohead, FKA Twigs, and Tame Impala. All members of the band love hip hop music. It’s an interesting mix of influences, but, like the band themselves, it works.<\/p>\n
