Ben Montague: impassioned songwriter, crowd-pleasing touring artist, eternal\u00a0optimist and acclaimed custom guitar business co-owner, has penned his most\u00a0lyrically raw and moving, anthemic and beautifully produced third album “Back Into\u00a0Paradise”, released on his own label MWM Ltd, on 15th\u00a0June, through Absolute via\u00a0Universal.<\/p>\n
Speaking about his album, while at the North American Guitar Studio, Ben is as passionate about his guitar playing as he is about his lyrics. The spare quality of his playing emphasises his lush vocals throughout “Back Into Paradise”, the titular lead track. He says,<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThis was the track that defined the\u00a0direction I wanted to take with the album. It is a \u2018wedge\u2019 of a song, and builds and\u00a0builds, until it is a mountain of sound by the end. But it\u2019s got a weird construction in\u00a0terms of song-writing. It was a natural choice to open the album because it\u2019s so\u00a0exciting. And it\u2019s a good name for the album because it says that, yes, there is a light\u00a0at the end of the tunnel.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\nThe album was the result of a process of self-belief and affirmation. Writing what\u00a0should have been a song for another artist with writing partners Jez Ashurst, who’s written for the likes of\u00a0Gabrielle Aplin and Will Young, and Charlie Grant (Simply Red, Melanie C), Montague\u00a0found the lyrics flooding out for the first of the album’s 10 songs, the searing, emotional \u201cWe Start Over\u201d. “Back Into Paradise” was produced by Peter-John Vettese, known for his\u00a0programming and arrangement work\u00a0with Paul McCartney, Pet Shop Boys, Dido and Annie Lennox (as well as co-writing\u00a0with Sia, Tom Odell and James Bay).<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n“Back Into Paradise” is about finding a reason to start again, and the redemptive power that music can offer.\u00a0In the track \u201cGonna Love Again\u201d, what initially seems\u00a0a beautiful melody about recovering from heartbreak – but with a twist –<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\u201cIt\u2019s about me putting my arm around my only-slightly-younger self and saying\u00a0it\u2019s all going to work out fine. It\u2019s me falling in love with making music again.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\nSearing rock track \u201cThe Meaning\u201d, was written with Rihanna songwriter Tony Bruno, while the cover of The Foo Fighters’\u00a0\u201cBest Of\u00a0You\u201d, reworks the original hard rock monster into a wracked ballad.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\u201cI am a big\u00a0big fan of The Foo\u2019s and Dave Grohl. He is a phenomenal song writer and his lyrics\u00a0are just beautiful\u201d.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\nOther notable key figures in the making & writing of the album include Jake Gosling\u00a0(Ed Sheeran, \u201cLego House\u201d), Martin Brammer (James Morrison, Olly Murs) and Jim\u00a0Duguid (Paolo Nutini, The Waterboys).<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\u201cI\u2019m trying not to have any expectations at all,\u201d he insists. \u201cBut this album is so real\u00a0and I\u2019m not hiding behind anything, so I hope people respond to it.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\nBen will be touring the UK in October. He says,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\u201cI have a lot of\u00a0fun onstage, I think it\u2019s so easy to take yourself too seriously.
