Are you going to The Great Escape Festival in Brighton this year? If so, why not pop into The Red Lion on Friday 15th of May. Presented by Impressive PR, “Impressive By the Sea”\u00a0is part of “Alternative Escape” (officially part of the Great Escape Festival) and promises a fantastic afternoon of music, featuring some of the best bands from the UK and beyond.<\/p>\n

\"Evering1\"<\/p>\n

The event starts at 12 noon with Evering<\/a>, who we’ve featured recently on Essentially Pop.\u00a0London based, Scots folk duo Evering are composed of singer\/songwriters, Dawn Coulshed and Chris Yendell.<\/p>\n

Having first made each other\u2019s acquaintance in Edinburgh in 2013, it wasn\u2019t until last year, when they met up in London, that they decided to collaborate. \u00a0Evering\u00a0combines\u00a0strong harmonies with silvery-toned\u00a0piano and guitar.<\/p>\n

\"Ekkoes6\"<\/p>\n

Next, at 12.40, are Ekkoes<\/a>, a three piece electro-pop band from London with a\u00a0style which is on the one hand 80s influenced (there\u2019s a lot of Pet Shop Boys to be heard in \u201cFight The Feeling\u201d)\u00a0and on the other quite contemporary, Ekkoes are a band with a great future ahead of them.<\/p>\n

\"the-magnettes\"<\/p>\n

At 1.20, The Magnettes<\/a> bring a taste of Sweden\u00a0to The Black Lion. \u00a0The\u00a0duo, composed of\u00a0Rebecka Digervall and Sanna Kalla,\u00a0will be releasing their new single “Sore Feet and Heartbeats”\u00a0on 6th July. The pair have just come back from SXSW in Austin, Texas, and have signed a development deal with\u00a0DO Music. The Magnettes will begin writing and recording their debut album later this\u00a0year in Sweden and the UK.<\/p>\n

\"Mariann<\/p>\n

Staying in Scandinavia, Norwegian singer Mariann Rosa<\/a>\u00a0brings her own unique blend of colourful style and sound to the Red Lion at 2pm.\u00a0Former Judge on Norway\u2019s version of\u00a0\u2018Idol\u2019, Mariann is already a household name in her native Scandinavia. As former front woman of Norwegian thrash power pop band\u00a0Surferosa,<\/span>\u00a0Mariann has supported the likes of\u00a0The Killlers, Electric Six\u00a0and\u00a0Turbonegro.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"millions\"<\/p>\n

We’ve featured Millions<\/a> here before, the\u00a0indie pop quartet from Brisbane Australia who are about to launch themselves on the UK this spring with their debut self-titled EP, \u201cMillions\u201d.<\/p>\n

Millions formed in 2011 and comprise\u00a0Dominic Haddad on lead vocals, brothers\u00a0Ted and Louis Tillbrook (sons of Squeeze founder, Glenn Tilbrook), taking guitar and drums respectively, and\u00a0Campbell\u00a0Smith\u00a0on bass. Millions have been making a name for themselves in Australia sharing stages with such acts as Peace, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and San Cisco, and performing at festivals such as Splendor in the Grass, the Falls Festival, and the Big Day Out.<\/p>\n

The Black Lion welcomes Millions to their stage at 2.40.<\/p>\n

\"Zombies\"<\/p>\n

Any fan of classic UK rock will be no strangers to the sixth and final act at this event. The Zombies, formed in 1961 in\u00a0St Albans\u00a0and led by\u00a0Rod Argent\u00a0(piano, organ and vocals) and\u00a0Colin Blunstone\u00a0(vocals).\u00a0The group scored British and American\u00a0hits\u00a0in 1964 with “She’s Not There”. \u00a0They had further success in the US with the singles, “Tell Her No” in 1965 and “Time of the Season” in 1969. The lineup may have changed slightly since those days, but Argent and Blunstone remain,\u00a0and with a back catalogue stretching more than 40 years, The Zombies promise to get everyone up on their feet and dancing when they hit the stage at 3.20pm.<\/p>\n
