Jada first came to my notice with the powerful ballad ‘I’m Back’ earlier this year but anyone who has been following her social media knows that she has been quietly kicking up a storm in her home country Denmark with releases like ‘On Me’ and ‘Nudes’. Her quite mesmeric performance on the Zulu Awards Show highlighted just how incredible she is as a live act and it’s no surprise that she will be headlining at the legendary Orange Stage at the Roskilde Festival next year.
Today sees the release of her new single, ‘Something to Say’, a driving R&B infused song about honesty in a relationship and saying what you mean. Jada says of her new song:
“This song is about being in a relationship with someone but you feel like there is a distance between you. They took a step back and you don’t know why. It’s about intimacy, attraction and how you have to get the hard stuff inside of you out. This song really means a lot to me, because it’s essential that there is honesty and trust between me and the people I love. I can have a hard time expressing my own thoughts and feelings sometimes but we have to do it, I think. It only makes us better, closer and stronger.”
With a voice that moves effortlessly between the intimate voice of an angel to the R&B power of a true diva, she has the stage presence of the incredible Cristina Aguilera and being able to channel the authenticity of her lyrics with the power that she has in her voice is reminiscent of what Adele brings to the party. It’s this combination that has made these artists worldwide sensations, and it will be that winning combination that I’m sure will see Jada spreading her wings far beyond her Scandinavian roots.
Being named ‘P3 Talent of the Year’ at home in 2019, an honour that is the Danish equivalent of the revered ‘BBC Sound of’, has given Jada the springboard to quickly become one of the most promising new artists to come out of Denmark definitely, and possibly Scandinavia. This single will, I feel, continue to bring her to a wider audience. I would recommend not only listening to her but seeking out video of her live and you will begin to understand why I’m so excited by this young artist.
Jada sings: “If you’ve got something to say, why are you walking away, just tell me straight to my face” ….and with more than 40 million global streams on Spotify alone, I’m sure that nobody will be walking away any time soon.
