Trickshooter Social Club come from Chicago, where their musical style is full-on roots-rock, with nods also to country, pop, punk, and blues. Their biggest musical inspirations include Cash, Kiss, Social Distortion, Cheap Trick, Steve Earl, Tom Petty and early Wilco. Their new single, ‘Don’t Settle Me Down’, was released on September 10, through The Animal Farm.
Trickshooter Social Club describe their sound as,
An oddly literate, completely eclectic approach to fuzzy, tweedy, garage-y, country-tinged, stomp and clap American rock-n-roll. Sometimes singer/songwriter, sometimes loud and unapologetic – our songs are a little whiskey soaked and world weary – but always leave a little room for redemption.
New single, ‘Don’t Settle Me Down’ certainly fits this description. At first listen it’s a folky track, with a Mazzy Starr vibe, but a deeper dive reveals a track that can’t really be categorised, with vocals reminiscent of Grace Slick in her Jefferson Airplane heyday. Listen again, and there’s a campfire feel, and a sound somewhat closer to The Lumineers. Basically, Trickshooter Social Club are a style unto themselves, and a good one too. ‘Don’t Settle Me Down’ is sonically characterised by anthemic electric guitars, which give way to light strings when the vocals rise up. All in all it’s a stunning track.
Trickshooter Social Club have just released their latest EP, ‘Monte Carlo’, with ‘Don’t Settle Me Down’ the second single from the record, following on from ‘Honey I Believe’.
