Maribased1 Releases New Single, ‘Xuicide’

‘Xuicide’, the latest single from Maribased1, has a restless energy, seductive sound. and MariBased1’s performance is melodic yet never overly sweet. The rapid-fire lyrics are never unintelligible, while the sung chorus is memorable, but never overpowers the verses, packed with busy hooks, such as quotable lines, tuneful phrases, and clever internal and external references.

For the stylish video for ‘Xuicide’ we see MariBased1 behind the wheel of a sleek, speeding car, building on the success of his previous videos, ‘Mystery Girl, and ‘Doe Boy’, which saw him collaborate with Mr. Benjamin, and producer HennyOnTheBeat. While those clips showed Maribased1 as a street savvy night owl, in his home turf of Seattle, for ‘Xuicide’ he’s gone to New York City, where he raps between the skyscrapers with a full moon over Manhattan. We get the feeling that danger is never far from MariBased1; in one scene, he hangs from a ledge overlooking Times Square, and in another, he’s a prisoner of gangsters, tied in a chair under an interrogation lamp. Even the beautiful girl by his side in his sportscar doesn’t seem trustworthy. Nevertheless, MariBased1 never loses his cool.
