Dennis J. Leise Begs ‘Hurry Up And Die’ With New Single

Dennis J. Leise grew up outside Pittsburgh, in rural Pennsylvania, along with a long stretch in Chicago, but now makes his home on his urban farm in unincorporated Gary, Indiana. Gary has allowed Dennis both accessibility to the music scene he’s entrenched himself in, as well as the solitude of working the land. He was recently featured in the Chicago Reader, in a piece called, “Dennis J. Leise grows his own“, which highlighted the successful, if unconventional, balancing act he performs, of having his cake and eating, too.

With the words, “The world that you grew up in is no more”, Leise issues a statement of truth, but one that’s open to interpretation. For many of us, it’s a positive thing. We live in a healthier, safer, and more equal world than we did before. For the others however…it’s not so good.

‘Hurry Up And Die is the lead track from his new album, ‘The World You Grew Up In Is No More’, and it strikes at the heart of those that just sit back and complain about the world passing them by, rather than adapting to change. There’s more than a hint of Johnny Cash in the opening riff of the track, which the baritone vocal does its best to match.

Dennis once again teams up with director Rob Fitzgerald for this video, which is shot in black and white, and has him in the back of his farm truck singing to the camera as the angel of death lurks around the property sulking about everything new. The residents of the farm take exception to this disrespect and, in the end, have a word with the cloaked figure. But not before he joins in with Dennis for a bit of fun. Quirky isn’t the word!
