Max RM Uses Makes Creative Use Of Lockdown With New Single ‘Emerald’

Released on June 18, ‘Emerald’ is the new single from London based musician, Max RM.

Max RM started releasing solo work last year, following on from several years of writing and playing in bands, as well as studying music at university, and composing for film and TV.

His latest single, ‘Emerald’, is a breathy, sixties infused track, with a suitably psychedelic lyric video to go with it. Max RM wrote and recorded the track during lockdown, and it features backing vocals by Liz Dearsley. Further adding to the ingenuity brought about by the pandemic, the track was mixed remotely by Oli Deakin, of Lowpines.

Max RM’s music cover themes we can all relate to, including love, loss, hope and angst, and ‘Emerald’ is no exception. Speaking of the track he says,

“The song is about coming to terms with the end of a whirlwind romance. I wanted to capture a sense of the bewilderment in the aftermath of a breakup and to depict the fragile nature of relationships.”

Not content to merely be a songwriter, vocalist, and producer as well, Max is also a multi-instrumentalist, and while recording the track in his home studio he played piano, guitar, harmonium, bass and percussion. Max RM includes among his musical inspirations the likes of John Martyn, Gillian Welch, Elliott Smith, Big Thief, Phoebe Bridgers, and Andy Shauf.
