Oceanator – I Would Find You’

No matter how depressed and isolated we may have felt over the past year at the state of the world, there’s still every now and then, a beam of light that shines down and reminds us that things aren’t so bad. One such beam of light is new indie rocker Oceanator, also known as Elise Okusami. The New York native has been a talented and dedicated musician from the age of nine, and she even got her brother involved when they formed their own band, back when Elise was still only in the 4th grade. Since that time, she’s hardly had a moment to slow down. Oceanator’s unique indie-rock, grunge-pop sound has consistently been deeply moving and challenges just about everything.

Her full-length debut album, ‘Things I Never Said’, has eerily anticipated with the pandemic and what the world has been like ever since last year, and latest track, ‘I Would Find You’, is just one of many seerlike songs to be found on the album. An upbeat single with just enough synths to make it feel fun and poppy, there’s eerie lyrics that surprised even Elise herself.

The song asks what would happen if the world ended and if the sun never rose again – Oceanator knows what she would do, she’d make sure her loved ones were safe, and that somehow everything would turn out okay. ‘I Would Find You’ is a love story but it’s filled with a sense of desperation in an apocalyptic world…one that hopefully we’ll never have to experience.

Opening with a crackling car radio as Elise is driving through the dark, we follow Elise through the clip for ‘I Would Find You’. She walks through the snow-covered neighbourhood. Although on the surface it’s your typical suburb, eerily there’s no people; all the streets and houses are empty. The only people we see are the faces of strangers that flash every now and then throughout the video. There’s a mysterious vibe that can be felt and the only way to find out what happens next is just to keep watching.
