Tom Walton Releases Latest Album, ‘Sonic Limbo’

Nottingham’s Tom Walton comes from a musical family, and grew up listening to his father’s 90s house and trance music on car journeys, as well as the grade 8 jazz piano standards his brother played. It was a short step for him to make his own music, and ‘Sonic Limbo’ is the latest album from the electronic music artist. The release, which came out on February 12, has already seen coverage by BBC Introducing.

10 tracks long, ‘Sonic Limbo’ is anything but; rather it will take the lover of electronic music to heaven and back again. Writing about the record, Walton said,

“From start to finish, ’Sonic Limbo’ is a journey through feelings we’ve all experienced at one time in our lives. Maybe, more recently given the circumstances of the Pandemic. An album where the music tells the story not the lyrics. An eclectic mixture of moods and grooves packed with intrigue. An album in which you can dance the night away just as much as you can sit down and take it all in. Whatever your preference, it’s an experience like no other.”

Filled with dance beats and old school house rhythms (perhaps reminiscent of the very same ones Walton grew up listening to), ‘Sonic Limbo’ draws from a variety of different genres, Walton’s production talent confidently weaving them together. ‘Slow Dancing With My Own Thoughts’ takes a step away from this, and is a blues guitar lick, set against the sounds of an audience, reminding us of what we’re missing out on during this prolonged period of quarantine. Walton used 2020 as a means by which to grow his musical knowledge, writing and producing his own music, as well as producing for other bands and artists. ‘Sonic Limbo’ follows on from Walton’s debut EP, ‘Time To Move On’, which was released in September last year, on Mind Over Matter Records UK. That release received critical acclaim, and ‘Sonic Limbo’ should likewise receive positive press. Tom Walton has live dates tentatively lined up for the summer of 2021.
