Tolu. A – ‘My Talents’

‘My Talents’, the new single from Tolu. A, takes the New Testament Parable Of The Talents, found in the Gospel of Matthew, and puts a new spin on it. Rather than the original meaning, being money disbursed to servants by their master, he instead turns it around and reflects on the God-given talents that many of us have, and that Tolu. A certainly has in abundance,

Electrifying pianist Tolu. A worked with Virginian filmmaker Tyler Scheerschmidt, to give us a gorgeous, soul-enriching, live-action version of the parable, and sees him coaxing heavenly sounds from his instrument. Tolu. A certainly isn’t burying his talent, nor is he hiding it under a bushel. He’s putting it out there for all the world to see, in full confidence that God will reward him for his faith.

The focus in Scheerschmidt’s gloriously-shot clip is firmly on Tolu. A. In nine minutes the director captures the musician wholly in his element; he’s sat at the piano, his heart open and his hands full in action, his performance drawing from gospel, pop, and R&B. Between shots of the pianist in action we are shown the three children of a successful man, each of whom he entreats to make best of the talents they’ve been given. The first two sons make shrewd investments, and double their money. The third son however hides his cheque away, under his mattress, and is estranged from his patron for having wasted what was freely given to him.
