Evan Troop – ‘My Time Now’

A rock and country artist, from Dallas, Texas, Evan Troop’s family came from Winnipeg, Canada, and so he spent part of his childhood north of the border. His international experience has had a huge impact on his life, giving him a love for travel, and just as much on his music. His latest single, ‘My Time Now’, is out on December 18.

Evan was probably always going to end up in music; his parents after all met at a Winnipeg music studio in the 1970s. They took the chance on the American Dream, and in 198o they moved to Dallas, where they paid their way through university, supporting themselves with their music, and started a family. Evan started learning the piano at the age of 4, then drums at 11, and guitar at 18. He didn’t find his calling directly however, and attended the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point New York, from there he sailed the world as a ships officer aboard Merchant Vessels, and additionally serving 8 years as a US Naval Reserve officer. The time was well spent – Evan began writing songs during this time, and eventually came ashore in 2012.

Following in his parents’ footsteps, he started two local bands in Dallas, Bourbon Diesel and Uptown Strange, to fund his MBA at Southern Methodist University. Although he has been working with JP Morgan since graduating in 2014, and enjoys finance, it’s not his true passion, which is of course, music. He spent 2017 and 2018 assembling 14 demos, which he submitted to Nashville producer Bryan Todd. ‘My Time Now’ has been a long time coming, but it’s been well worth it.

Troop channels The Eagles, in particular Glenn Frey, and his voice is honey smooth and mellow as he sings, accompanied by his electric guitar. You get the feeling that this song is autobiographical, he tells the story of how he’s been seeking to come to this point, to “find out what’s real”, and “can’t go on again with that empty feel”. All his experiences have lead him up to this point in his life, that music is his true destiny. It’s got to be a nice feeling, to know where you’re meant to be, and to finally make it there.

‘My Time Now’ is out December 18. Find out more about Evan Troop and his music online on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. You can pre-save his music here.
