Yachtclub101 Releases Third Single ‘Nothing They Say’ From New Self-Titled Album

Scott Ayers, performing as Yachtclub101, released the first single from his self-titled album back in September; this is his third. The album came out last Friday, November 13, which may be unlucky for some, but it’s perfect for Ayers.

‘Nothing They Say’ is accompanied by a music video shot with a sort of gritty, 80s style filter, and stars a group of gorgeous drag artists – Ava LaShay, Audrey Elle, Rosie Petals (complete with glitter beard), and Nia Politan – for whom performance is clearly more than just a way of life, it’s their everything. The video sees each artist as they are everyday, then transformed into their drag persona, and it’s the perfect match for lyrics such as “you’re gonna set the world on fire” and “you follow your own desire”. The upbeat song calls to mind Scissor Sisters, and that’s even without watching the clip.

The instrumentals are vaguely muted, which works well with the video and its 80s filter. Ayers’ vocals fight their way through, positioning themselves at the forefront of the track in the verses, but taking a back seat during the chorus. Altogether, t’s fun, it’s enticing, and intoxicating, with a “coffee percolator” style beat, that pulls you and pushes you away. Close your eyes and you can almost hear the bright colours of the video.

Speaking about the new album, Ayers said,

“I don’t give a shit about fame or money and I’ve lived my life happily without either, I imagined every song on the record live as one of the first concerts after the virus has dissipated. That first six months of live shows will be crowds so happy to be literally anywhere it will undoubtedly be a really emotional experience. Being trapped inside the last five months and the everyday fear that you might be in a hospital tomorrow on a ventilator made this record a necessary dream of the future. When this crap is over I think people are just gonna want something fun and happy for a while and I plan on bringing that happiness to every single person in the world.”
