Kevin Phillips – ‘Order My Steps’

Maryland faith-based artist Kevin Phillips knows who to thank for every blessing in his life, and every day, when he loses sight of the better things in life, he turns to God for help and inspiration. Kevin started his music career back in his teens, with ‘Trilogy’, formed with two friends. The trio was signed to record deals in New York City. Now a solo artist, Kevin’s infectious energy and faith in God has provided him with plenty of lyric matter, and his record label – Phillips Music Group also pays homage to his Lord, with its acronym also standing for “Praise Mighty God”.

Kevin’s new single, ‘Order My Steps’, comes with an, at times, haunting music video. It opens with a narrative from a pastor’s powerful voice, which echoes as police enter. The clip has a strong theme of before and after having God in your life. The before section is filled with uncertainty, and making unwise choices. After however is a whole lot nicer; sunny days, self assurance, and an optimistic perspective. Kevin Phillips makes it clear with his honey-sweet voice, that we can very easily find ourselves being put off the right path when we hang around with the wrong people, and make the wrong decisions; but all it takes it to let go, and let God. There’s even a “how to” scene, where a member of the congregation gives his life to Jesus.

The song also includes a verse by Donnie Breeze, a fellow Maryland recording artist. The pair met at the hospital where they both work, and after a few conversations and a jam session, they put down a verse and took it from there. Their synergy is so pure, you’d think they’d always known each other; surely this has been ordained by God Himself.
