Lauren Crosby, ft. Griffin Sherry – ‘Biloxi’

Set for release this Friday, July 3, ‘Biloxi’ is the latest track from Maine singer songwriter Lauren Crosby, and features guest vocals from Griffin Sherry of fellow Maine band, The Ghost Of Paul Revere.

Lauren Crosby is the daughter of a lobsterman from an island in Maine, whose sound reflects both the salt air of her home and the rustic-ness of her self-taught guitar and singing style. Her music is a blend of classic rock, folk, and old western music – nobody told her it couldn’t be done and it’s just as well, because they’d be wrong.

‘Biloxi’ was written while Lauren was travelling down the I90 on a tour of Southern Mississippi, and was born out of phone call with a friend who was trying to convince her to come back home. Lauren told her friend that she’d never come back home, because she didn’t have a true love there, to which her friend replied, “How many boys you gotta kiss until you find the right one?”

‘Biloxi’ features the powerhouse vocals of Griffin Sherry, lead singer and guitar player for fellow Mainers, Ghost Of Paul Revere. Crosby first met Sherry when the band toured through New Mexico in 2015, while she was in Albuquerque, studying at the University of New Mexico. She worked up the courage to ask Griffin to perform on the track, taking four months before she finally sent him a message on Instagram. She needn’t have stressed – he agreed instantly. And if all that sounds surprising, recall that Maine is a small state with a tightly-knit musical community: if you’re a Maine musician, chances are you know all the other Maine musicians. Recorded at Acadia Recording Company in Portland, Maine, Griffin edited some of the male lyrics for ‘Biloxi’ to fit the groove better.

Accompanied by a music video which follows Crosby as she tries to escape her life, just her, her guitar and small suitcase, and a beat up truck (complete with snow plough on the front – this is Maine after all!). It intersperses with scenes of her singing down the line to, presumably Sherry, explaining why she can’t stay. But in the end, she can’t leave either. It’s a simple clip shot in the throes of Covid-19 lockdown, but it works – and most of that is on the strength of the vocals of both Crosby and Sherry.

‘Biloxi, by Lauren Crosby and featuring Griffin Sherry, comes out tomorrow, July 3. You can find Lauren Crosby online on Facebook, Spotify, Youtube, Instagram, and her official website.
