The Academic Release New Single ‘Anything Could Happen’

The Academic, from Mullingar, Ireland, are pleased to announce their brand new single, ‘Anything Could Happen’, is out now via Capital Records, and is available to stream and download here.

Produced by Nick Hodgson (Kaiser Chiefs), and is the first track from their upcoming EP. The track is accompanied by a music video, directed by Hope Kemp and Roman Corrigan. The clip is a timely piece, featuring couples enduring lockdown conditions all over the world.

An upbeat guitar track, ‘Anything Could Happen’ opens up sounding a bit like Gary Numan’s ‘Cars’, but that’s where the similarities end. It’s a guitar-led song, bringing a positivity to the current situation we’re all finding ourselves in at the moment. The video certainly adds to this, but with the bitter-sweet element that not all of the couples in the video are still together. It ends with the important message, ‘Stay Home Stay Safe’, one which we all need to heed, particularly as the weather gets warmer.

The Academic of course won’t be strangers to many; they’re certainly known all over Ireland, and with their pop-rock sound they’ve certainly caught the attention of some hard hitters in the industry, not least of which The Rolling Stones, who selected them to open their No Filter world tour, which began almost exactly two years ago, on May 17, 2018 at Dublin’s Croke Park [I was there!]. Their debut album, ‘Tales From The Backseat’ was released in January 2018 and entered the Irish album charts in the top spot, and later that year was nominated and shortlisted for Ireland’s Choice Music Prize.

Further afield, The Academic have had a sold out show at London’s Scala, and they have another performance scheduled at The Electric Ballroom, once the lockdown lifts. The likelihood will be, if you’ve not heard of The Academic yet, it won’t be long until you have, and although it’s too late to get in on the ground floor (they’ve been together since 2013 after all), you’ve still plenty of time to be able to say “I was there”. Who knows? anything could happen!
