Six Quick Questions with Matthew Schultz

Pop producer/singer/songwriter/musician extraordinaire Matthew Schultz is a busy man. Juggling his career alongside putting out highly infectious tracks that have earned him millions of streams, his most recent “Go” has been remixed by himself and Modern Machines.

We got speaking to Matthew about the creation of the track, plans for the future and what makes him tick as an artist.

Thanks for talking to us, Matthew! You’ve just remixed your single from last year, ‘Go,’ alongside Modern Machines. Can you tell us a bit more about it?

Absolutely, thanks so much for the interview. Ever since I wrote and recorded the original version of ‘Go,’ I envisioned a high energy, future house and progressive style remix. I wanted something that would be a club anthem. I have always loved the Modern Machines style and I felt they would be the prefect production team to get the sound I was after.

Had you worked together before? What did you enjoy about the process?

This was the first time that we worked together. It was a pleasure working with them. I really love the imagination and the vision they had starting with just my raw acapella vocals.

You’ve been in the music business for many years, and created some killer tracks. Which are your personal favorites and why?

I still think ‘Somewhere Far’ is my favorite. I think it captures such a chill summer vibe and that is still doing great on all the platforms. It was by far one of my most successful songs; it currently has over 7.6 million streams on Spotify and was featured on all the biggest Spotify playlists like Chill Hits, Brand New Chill, Wochenende, Pop Relax, No Stress, Slo Down and many others.

How have you been spending your time in lockdown? Are you writing new music?

This lockdown has allowed me to work from home and really slowed me down to start to reflect and appreciate all the little things in life we take for granted. I have been working on new music and have some exciting projects that are almost ready!

What do you think makes you stand out as an artist?

I think that the positive and joyful vibe of my music allows listeners to escape reality for little bit. I think my lyrics are words that a lot of people can relate to, as well. I love to bring many different sounds and cultures into my music, it is my way of showing respect and gratitude for them all.

What question do you wish someone would ask you in an interview but nobody ever asks?

I think a good question would be “What drives and motivates you?” I am currently the President of Retail for a large bank. I work late hours and then try and find the time to record and put out music. I think my biggest drive is being able to inspire everyone to do what they love, and to do it on their own terms – no matter what age. A lot of young artists ask me for advice and I tell them all to “dream responsibly.”
