A few weeks ago we brought Shasta into your lives, with their single, ‘Roaming Hearts‘, a fresh and airy track that took you all the way back to The Summer Of Love.
They have just released their second single, ‘Closer’, ramping up the 60s vibe, with a little The Mamas and The Papas style close harmonies, or maybe even that of their direct descendants, Wilson Phillips.
‘Closer’ opens with a gentle drumbeat that is reminiscent of a slow moving train; a few seconds later it’s joined by an undulating guitar rhythm, then a swirling synth drops in, captivating the listener. The vocals are then added to this mix, gorgeously languorous and extremely pleasant, the perfect antidote to these troubled and uncertain times, when we all wish we could be closer to our loved ones.
‘Closer’, released on April 3, reminds us that there are better times coming soon, with the warmer weather – and music like this – lifting our spirits.
Initially formed in a literal dark alley in San Francisco after a meeting between Micayla Graace and Jennifer Duardo, fourpiece Shasta is composed of artists who’ve made their names working with other artists: Micayla has worked with Albert Hammond Jr, and is part of Bleached; Jon Shortland is a member of The Shins; and Cecilia Della Perutti is known for playing with Gothic Tropic, and Beck.
Their sound calls forth all that is good about California – sun, sand, and sea, as well as peace, harmony, and a laid back lifestyle with all year long great weather that draws out any creativity you may have hidden in your soul.
