EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH DARE YOU NOT TO ABOUT TOUR AND BAND LIFE

Dare You Not To are a UK 5 piece boyband made up of Huw, Brodie, Dushane, Max and Chase. Although they’ve been together less tahn a year, their social media followers are increasing every day, ensuring that DYNT are certainly a boyband you need to know about.

Amy got the chance to speak to the boys about tour life and their future plans.

Thank you for talking to us today, how are you?

We’re all good thank you!

For people who don’t know, tell me one thing about all of you?

We’re a boyband, we are all singers and all play instruments.

When did DYNT form as a band and how did you all meet?

We formed around May 2019 but it was a long process before that. We started off as a four piece (Huw, Max, Brodie and Chase), and then found Dushane and wanted to become a five piece.

[They jokingly added that they found him on the streets and he came down from heaven and there he was]

How did you come up with the band name Dare You Not To?

A song was written for us called ‘Dare You Not To’, and we were struggling to find a name at the time and then we thought that was a cool name and we liked it, we stuck with it.

You have been on tour all over the UK, what has been your favourite tour date so far?

London and Manchester. It was our first sold-out tour in London and the biggest crowd. We had loads of people we knew there, like our team there, so it was lit.

What has the energy been like when you guys have been on stage?

It’s crazy. We have been on many dates, such as schools and they don’t know what they should be doing. Now we are going on tour a lot more, we appreciate the energy and the crowd. You feed off of it so easily.

Give us a sneak peek of what tour is really like?

Lot of tired eyes. Always tired and get in a van at 3 in the morning. All the energy we saved up, we get on the stage and we have so much adrenaline. You meet the fans and then you come down after you remember how tired you are. So hit and miss, sleep-wise with the boys, you get to the tour date and everyone’s half-asleep before we get on sleep. As soon as you get out there, you feed off the energy.

How do you prepare for tour, from the outfits to the set list?

Rehearsals after rehearsals. We have a stylist Callum and he sorts the outfits out. When you know you’ll look good on stage you get so buzzed. Rehearse everyday that’s how we prepare for tour.

What has been the funniest moment on tour?

Everytime we move to a new place things happen. One of the mornings when someone has gone out. Walking into the dressing room and Dushane has passed out. Always a lot going on.

Craziest fan experience?

Fans get their parents to drive them to maccies to follow us. We always go there and the fans know that, and they’ll guess which one we’re at. We wanna get caught, it’s quite funny.

You do a lot of covers, what has been your favourite songs to cover?

When I look back on it, Dance Monkey, so different from the original. It was the whole thing. We stayed up all night shooting it, 12-5 in the morning and it ended up being sick. Our first proper music video. We used the flares doing all the good girls around the bonfire.

In terms of covers i like 10,000 hours.

We have a lot of faves.

How do you decide which songs to cover and how do you try to make them different from the original?

We look at what’s out in the charts and what we like. We go from there, and work closely with Dan and Greg and guide us to where we need to change it, delivering our sounds as a band.

Behind the scenes of a cover?

Recording, harmony, music video with JT and Callum as a stylist. The creative process to deciding what to do for a video such as vocals and arrangement. It’s hard work but it’s great and we love it.

Is there going to be any original music coming out soon?

Possibly, keep your eyes peeled. We like to keep them guessing

What are you working on at the moment in terms of music/tour?

We have written a couple of new songs and got a few songs we haven’t performed.

What do you describe your sound as?

Hip-hop and pop. Mesh of all of our favourite types of music.

Finally, what are you hoping to achieve in 2020?

World domination! Get our music out and be heard on a big scale. We want as many people as possible to support our music and connect with people. To grow the daredevil family. We have fans that are all over and to get ourselves out there more. 2020 is going to be a big one!
