Leah Jenea – ‘Balance’

Leah Jenea was recognised as a budding star back in her home state of New Jersey. Her father, Larry “Kapital” Gaines, who as Left Gunnz, had been releasing underground bangers for many many years. Before she was even 18, Leah had won a lot of Amateur Night prizes at the Apollo Theater, in New York, as well as opened for Bilal, and Musiq Soulchild, at The Electric Factory in Philadelphia.

In 2018, she released the single, ‘Perfectly Imperfect’, which confronted head on – with compassion and understanding – the issue of autism in poor communities, and led her to be compared to Mary J. Blige.

In the clip for her latest single, ‘Balance’, we see Leah Jenea swinging – on an indoor swing, showing off her playfulness. The swing rocks and sways in time to the music and Leah Jenea’s emotions, which are palpably overwhelming, brought to a fuller expression through the use of slow motion. Sweetly soulful and seductive, ‘Balance’ is also an analogy for the balance Leah Jenea needs in her life, the delicate tightrope walk between career and life.
