Laney Lynx – ‘Bad Attitudes’

New York based artist Laney Lynx wants us to examine the ‘Bad Attitudes’ we foster when we hold onto relationships we know aren’t good for us, but we keep with them for fear of being alone.

The video for ‘Bad Attitudes’ takes some incredible choreography talent. There’s a segment where all the performers are sitting at a table, and yet the dancers are still able to conduct their dance routine with skill. All with hair up, brightly coloured blazers, and addressing the camera (and each other), the four dancers are effectively clones of electropop singer Laney, and their crisp and smart dance routine is fun and a joy to watch.

‘Bad Attitudes’ describes the tricky balancing act that is made between poise and passion, impulse and restraint, reticence, and desire. It’s not too dissimilar in that respect to her other songs. In ‘Bad Attitudes’, Laney finds herself compelled by her new love, yet at the same time, she is concerned about his friends. This of course leads her to worry about herself – who is she, who will she become, if she stays with this man? She contemplates the consequences of staying – if she falls, will she ever be able to recover?
