Hollis Brown – ‘Go For It’

‘Go For It’ is the first single to be released from Hollis Brown’s new album, ‘Ozone Park’. Formed in Queens by singer guitarist Mike Montali and lead guitarist Jonathan Bonilla, the group is rounded out by Andrew Zehnal on drums, Adam Bock on keys, and Chris Urriola on bass. No, nobody is named Hollis…or Brown.

Releasing music since 2013, they’ve put out an EP and two albums, along with a Record Store Day tribute which honoured Velvet Underground’s ‘LOADED’ album. They’ve toured all over the US and Europe, and have supported the likes of Counting Crows, Jackie Green, and The Zombies, just to name a few. Their music has also been synced to films such as ‘Bad Country’, and TV shows like the US reboot of ‘Shameless’, ‘Kingdom’ on DirecTV, and MTV’s ‘Real World’.

‘Go For It’ is a funk rock piece with a chorus that you would be challenged to not sing along to. It comes with a music video shot in slow motion by director Michele Canevari, showing the band ripping through their song with all the joy and commitment of a group who truly love what they do.

The clip is intense and the attention to detail is incredible, with all the drama highlighted. Canevari has blended into the video some footage of a convenience store heist, which along with the getaway scene, also happens in slow motion. There’s some elements which give the video the vibe of an old TV programme, film scratches, titles in Cooper Bold…but it’s nonetheless very firmly rooted in the present day.
