Against the Current have very recently wrapped up their massive 2019 European tour, but not before visiting Cardiff’s student union for an outstanding performance.

Back in November, the band headed over to Europe from the States to begin touring. They started out in Moscow then travelled across a variety of different countries before finishing their set of shows in the UK. We were lucky enough to experience their incredible performance at their Cardiff show last week.

The night kicked off with support act Gucci Highwaters who treated the audience to his club-like sound and unique singing voice. After getting the crowd warmed up, Gucci left the stage and out came Against the Current.

There is only one way to describe their performance and that is absolutely flawless. Lead singer Chrissy Costanza made singing live in front of an audience look effortless. The crowd were in awe of her beautiful vocals during the slow songs and blown away when she belted the fast ones. Pair that with Dan Gow’s insane guitar skills and Will Ferri’s hardcore drumming, the band were unstoppable!

They sang a range of old and new songs. Highlights included; “Strangers Again” which is a recent song that the band released alongside their album “Past Lives” last year, a stunning medley of a couple of older songs “Brighter” and Comeback Kid” performed by Chrissy and Will who showed of his piano playing skills and “One More Weekend” which was clearly a crowd favourite as they went crazy for it!

As the band existed the stage for an encore, the crowd were not yet ready to see them go! They chanted that they wanted to hear more so the band returned to perform another three songs. One of these songs was an oldie called “Gravity” in which Chrissy praised as one of her favourite songs to perform. This showed as, once again, she sang the song effortlessly making it look like anyone can do it…but nobody can sing like Chrissy no matter how easy she makes it look!

The night drew to a close all too quickly and the crowd left the venue sad for it to be over but knowing that they will be the first to buy the tickets whenever they return to the UK! All in all, if you want to see a band that you can jump, dance, cry and headband to all at once, then Against the Current is definitely the ones to see! They’ve now wrapped up their tour but bye sure to follow their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to keep an eye out for when they return!
